Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and one of the most-respected politicians across parties will be conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award, today. President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be among a host of VVIPs who are expected to be present at Mr Vajpayee's Delhi residence where he will be honoured.

Finally, Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government had a single dimensional vision, that of creating employment opportunities across different stratas of society. In this aim it succeeded in creating approximately 60.5 million new jobs between 1998 and 2004 (during the term of Vajpayee government). While the subsequent government under Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh created an abysmal 2 million jobs over the next six years.
